Sektor Keuangan Material pada awalnya ketika Proyek Pemugaran Candi Borobudur menjadi proyek nasional dalam program PELITA pada tahun 1969 bernama Sektor Administrasi. Dalam perjalanannya, Sektor Administrasi dipecah menjadi dua, yaitu Sektor Keuangan Material dan Sektor Tata Laksana. Perubahan ini kemungkinan terjadi pada tahun 1972, dan strukturnya kemudian tetap digunakan sampai dengan selesainya Proyek pada tahun 1983.
